Hi, i'm Nida
My interest in UX design was found by accident through a class in college. I had made my mind up to be a graphic designer and maybe work up to being an art director one day. Taking that course completely changed my plan. UX/UI was the first time I found myself being a fit humanly and artistically. Graphic design, and in fact all kinds of art careers, require a level of empathy and knowing your audience. I could tell this was different. Not only did I feel like I was making meaningful design decisions, the UX process required that I knew I was. Connecting with the users directly, putting them at the center of the design process, and going forth in that way was reaffirming and exciting.
I wasn't sure how to begin this. Writing about myself always seemed like a daunting task. How can I communicate a vision, a feeling, or an experience effectively? The art talks, but will everyone get the message? How much do I have to explain? These questions often float around when I begin to write about myself. Sure, the technical side of it is important.
I attended Benedictine University and graduated in 2021 with a BA in Graphic Design. I did a minor in Marketing as well. I received my UX design certification in 2023. I've been working as a freelance graphic designer since.
At surface level, it may seem good enough. I believe my passion and brilliance in art has not yet found it's parallels when discussing technicalities and this is where I find myself stumped. If my technical skills and qualifications equip me to walk, my work ethic, my mindset, my approach, and my empathy allow me to effectively pave the path. I've realized this over the years while trying different mediums in art. Other than digital design, I love sketching, art journaling, painting, and crafting. I'm always curious and trying new creative tools because each art form pushes me to think and work differently. In return, I'm able to take a new perspective back to digital designing.
Outside of this field, I also love reading (rom-coms and dystopian are my favorite). I love writing poetry and journaling. I also love taking walks and feeling in-touch with my surroundings. I'm thankful for my urge to romanticize life's simple pleasures because it often serves as inspiration for my art. An artist's journey is truly never-ending. I'm excited to continue growing and learning, and I hope that it reflects well through my projects.
